Celebrated civil rights activist and co-founder of Caribana has passed away

According to Now magazine at nowtoronto.com, "The great civil rights lawyer and black pride activist Charles Roach has died. He was 78 years old.  

For years in Toronto, the omnipresent Roach graced meeting rooms where activists worked on causes like democratic control over police, and worker and protester rights.

A co-founder of Caribana and an organizer for Martinsday, Roach had a deep dedication to strengthening the bonds of Toronto's African-Canadian community and lent his name and prestige to a host of causes."
